Events and Competitions

Students are able to learn from and work with like-minded peers

MSVU - Social Enterprise for a Day (SE4D)

This conference is annually held at the Mount. Attracts students from high schools, local universities and NSCC. Students learn about social enterprises, write business plans, and implement their business over a two-day period

MSVU - Career Week

The Mount hosts two Career Week sessions, offering students an opportunity to learn about careers from roughly 35 speakers over a series of 5-7 panel sessions

MSVU - Centre for Women in Business

The Centre for Women in Business is the Mount’s on-campus entrepreneurship centre. While they focus mainly on helping female business owners in the community, the Centre for Women in Business offers many opportunities for students as well.

NSCC - Women Unlimited

Women Unlimited can introduce you to a whole new world of opportunities in trades and technology. Women Unlimited assists women with barriers to employment by exploring, preparing, obtaining and maintaining employment in the trades and technology fields.

MSVU - RBC Alliance of Young Women Entrepreneurs

We work with you to develop the knowledge and skills needed to create a successful business, either before or after you graduate. The RBC AYWE program will give you the opportunity to explore business ideas and market research, in order to find the right way forward. Mentorship, access to business advisors, a membership to the Centre for Women in Business ($125 value per year), and opportunities to attend business networking events and conferences are just some key components of the RBC AYWE program

Queen Pins

QueenPins was started in Spring 2016 by a group of women from Halifax with the mission to raise funds for a local cause while networking with other powerful women. Building on the momentum of that first event, we’ve held another three in support of Junior Achievement Nova Scotia, Habitat for Humanity Nova Scotia and Eating Disorders Nova Scotia.

NSCAD - Design Print Services

Design Print Services primarily supports our communication design programs, though its resources are available to the entire university community, including alumni. Complete printing facilities enable users to participate in any phase of the printing process, from pre-press through to bindery functions. Design Print Services offers a small computer lab, with four Macintosh computers and scanners for digital production and output.

Equipment:    

  • An extensive collection of letterpresses
  • A vast selection of lead type, wood type and cuts
  • A bindery
  • Computer lab with four Macintosh workstations and scanners
  • Xerox Doc12 colour copier and image processing unit, with wired/wireless data transmission capability

SMU - 3D Printer

Use one of our 3D printers to create your prototype. 3D printing offers tons of benefits in the fields of medicine, engineering and business. Contact the Saint Mary’s University Entrepreneurship Centre to obtain more information on how to start building your idea.

NSCAD - Multimedia Centre

Services include: help desk support; setup and maintenance of student-computing labs and classrooms; setup and maintenance of Multimedia printing services; general audio-visual resources and loans; analogue to digital conversion services; setup support, recording and editing of NSCAD public events; and scheduling and provision of one-to-one or group workshops for faculty in the use of Multimedia supported equipment and software.

NSCAD - Photographic Services

Photographic Services offers generous access to equipment and facilities for all members of the university community, including students in Extended Studies courses. The photo area supports black and white and digital imaging processes, with teaching, laboratory and specialized production areas. Students enrolled in advanced photography courses enjoy 24-hour access.

NSCC - NSCC Entrepreneurship

provides entrepreneurial skill, awareness and development opportunities for NSCC students, faculty and staff through free entrepreneurship resources, financial support for training and activities, entrepreneurship consulting, on-campus activities and experiences, and community connections.

SMU- Sobey School of Business

The Sobey School of Business, through active learning and the creation and mobilization of scholarship, prepares citizens of the world to lead sustainable, entrepreneurial businesses and communities. We mentor and develop innovators and entrepreneurs in every discipline. Saint Mary’s University offers Entrepreneurship as a major in the Commerce and Arts programs. A co-op option is also available!

MSVU - Business and Tourism Department

The Mount Business and Tourism Department offers many activities for students interested in entrepreneurship. They host many events throughout the year to engage students in business activities, entrepreneurship activities, networking opportunities, and more.

SMU- Master of Technology Entrepreneurship & Innovation (MTEI)

The Master of Technology Entrepreneurship & Innovation curriculum takes knowledge and skills from management, marketing, leadership, finance, accounting, communications, economics and information technology and integrates them with best practices from industry to produce sharp, relevant learning. Students will access investors and partners in their quest to become a successful technology entrepreneur and innovator. MTEI is a full-time graduate studies program.
