Common Good Solutions Inc. (CGS) and the law firm BOYNECLARKE LLP are happy to announce the launch of the post-secondary student pitch and business development competition called Innovative Ideas.
The event will award over $20,000 in cash prizes, plus coaching and technical support will be offered to the top six finalists. A crowd funding event will be held at the evening reception where, last year, almost $3,500 was invested in 90 minutes.
The Innovative Ideas competition allows students to develop an idea into a business plan and pitch it to a number of investors, industry professionals and school faculty over a period of three months. Students first submit their ideas on the event website (http://innovationeast.ca) using a platform called Pitchburner. Once submitted, a reviewer assigned from their post-secondary institution provides feedback on their idea. To gain more feedback students can re-submit their ideas as many times as they like up until their local campus holds its regional competition or selects its provincial finalists. The chosen finalists from the campus competitions will then attend the Provincial Finals competition on February 23, 2015 at the Westin Nova Scotia in Halifax. Past winners include Spring Loaded Technologies and BioMer Innovations.
Workshop sessions throughout the day are open to any student, competitor or not, on topics as varied as intellectual property law, telling your branding story, experiences from the field and more.
At the Provincial Competition, campus finalists pitch their ideas to a panel of judges from the business community, and six finalists will be chosen to compete for the grand prizes during an evening reception from 6pm-8pm.
During the reception, the six Finalists each have a booth where they will concurrently pitch their ideas to “Investor” attendees. “Investors” purchase “play-money” to invest with their favourite finalists during the event. At the end of the reception, the six event finalists exchange their script for real cash on the spot.
